In past history, Ripiro Beach in New Zealand was the locale where many shipwrecks were found. Today you can drive along the beach for about two hours in either direction when the tide is out. It is highly advisable to check the tides before doing so and a 4 wheel drive is recommended. This road trip is one of the most scenic journeys on the North Island and is an adventure which everyone should take.

... Every year Glinks Gully hosts a sandcastle competition and people of all ages join in the festivities on the beach. The golden sand is perfect for building sandcastles until high tide brings in the ocean waves.
