Photo: Moose Alaska

A male Moose grows antlers like the example on this stag in Alaska every spring then sheds them after mating.

The antlers of a Moose only take three months to grow which means they are the fastest growing organ in the world. Every fall after mating and in order to conserve energy during the winter, the male moose will drop its large antlers.

This large male moose was standing amongst the lush grass on the banks of a lake in the Denali National Park in Alaska, USA. Moose are largely distributed through Alaska and Canada in North America as well as northern parts of Europe.
