Looking across to the American Falls from a walkway in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The American Falls stand at a height of 56 metres. The basin below the falls is not that deep, made up of eroded bedrock which has fallen from the escarpment itself, dislodged from the continual flowing water. It is thought that over time the falls will become descending rapids due to the build up of bedrock at the base of the American Falls.
