The Coast Guard 508 off Northern Vancouver Island carries out various operations all of which include but are not limited to keeping boats and travelers out of any danger, environmental mishaps and responding to any search and rescue calls.
The Coast Guard around North Vancouver Island operate various types of rescue equipment; one of which is the rigid hulled inflatable boat with either inboard or outboard motors which are known to be extremely fast for responding to any emergency calls. British Columbia became part of the Coast Guard on July 20, 1871. The Canadian Coast Guard has the responsibility of keeping watch over the longest coastline in the world which expands over 243,000 kms. The fleet operated by the Canadian Coast Guard all display Canadian Coast Guard flag. The Coast Guard has been extremely beneficial to Vancouver Island's maritime history.
