Rising up from beside the interpretative trail on the edge of the Milk River Valley, the hoodoos in the Writing on Stone Provincial Park greatly contrast against the lush green scenery of the valley itself.
Besides the sedimentary rock hoodoos in Writing on Stone, the park is actually better known for the etchings on the rocks which are of great spiritual significance to the Plains Indians. The Niitsítapi or Blackfoot People believe that the drawings are messages created by the spirits of the departed.
