Clouds encompass the sky over Lake Iwago in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area in Churchill, Manitoba as a halo forms around the sun. The partial frozen landscape sparkles in the lighting and off in the distance the sky becomes free of clouds.
There are various types of halos which are formed either near the sun or the moon, most of which are the cause of ice crystals in the clouds. Two different kinds of halos often seen in Churchill, Manitoba are the icebow or an A22 icebow. An icebow is an arc, not a full circle, where the brighter part of the halo is above, below and lateral to the center and are generally one colour, while an A22 degree icebow has a red colouring on the inside and a blue tinge on the outside.
