On a pond in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, lily pads blanket the surface of the water as a white and yellow water lily flourishes. Water lilies come in a variety of colors but most of the ones in Algonquin Provincial Park are found to be yellow and white.
A water lily has an extremely long stem that bypasses the lily pads and then soaks up the sun and blossoms into this delicate white and yellow flower. Sun is the main ingredient in the survival of a water lily as this is how they get their food and energy. Frogs love to find shelter under the water lily and their leaves to get away from the direct rays of the sun and to avoid any predators.
Many different species of water lily exist which are then divided into groups known as night, tropical and hardy plants. This particular yellow and white colored water lily is in the hardy grouping as it can last through some of the various climates in Ontario, Canada. The night lily only blooms during the night time hours and the tropical ones love the warmer temperatures and are known to bloom anytime in the day.
Wandering around some of the ponds in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada you can see for yourself how much the water lily thrives in this area. In certain places, the surface of the water is barely visible due to the growth and reproduction of the water lily.
Over the years, the water lily is becoming endangered due to the destruction of the wetlands. Admiring the growth around the wetlands is the only thing that people visiting these areas should be doing, not harming them.
