White Storks: Scientific Name:
Ciconia ciconia
Two cute juvenile white storks sit patiently in their nest in the Provence, France in Europe as the adult white stork tends to their needs until their wings develop at 8-9 weeks of age. Both parents of the young white storks feed them on the nest until they can fend for themselves. When a white stork is born they are covered with white down, black bills and dull brown legs until they start to mature and then slowly acquire the red color like their parents.
The nests that the adult white storks in France, Europe build for their young are huge and bulky and are made up branches and sticks lined with twigs, grasses, sod, rags and paper. The white storks may reuse the same nest every year and continue adding growth to it every season...
... until it is an outrageous size.
The old wive's tale that the white storks bring babies is believed to have started in Germany probably because they arrive on their breeding grounds nine months after midsummer. Around the Parc Naturel Regional de Camargue in the Provence, France you will probably find a nest of white storks if it is breeding season.
