Whale Watching Northern Vancouver Island: Scientific Name:
Orcinus orca
Backdropped by Malcolm Island's Donegal Head in the waters off Northern Vancouver, a killer whale ploughs across our path as the sun sets.
We had head set out from Port McNeill at around 4pm on a September afternoon and motored towards Telegraph Cove and beyond. It was near Telegraph Cove that we found a small pod of Killer Whales travelling north in Johnsone Strait, so we enjoyed a little bit of whale watching from our small boat, as they skirted the shores of Northern Vancouver Island.
Eventually they turned into Weynton Passage as the sun was setting and continued cruising the waters of Blackfish Sound and into Queen Charlotte Strait. Unfortunately that is where we had to end our whale watching and return to Port...
... McNeill before the light was completely gone for the night.
