Back in 1942, a lone man that was enlisted in the US Army and working on the Alaska Highway became very homesick and decided that he would post a sign in the direction of his home that stated the mileage. Many other fellows from the army followed in his footsteps and soon Sign Post Forest had many travelers stopping to put up signs.

Sign Post Forest in the Yukon Territories has become a world known place which is owned by Watson Lake and people traveling to the area are encouraged to brings signs to keep this history alive. The collection of signs needs to continue and in 1990 somebody put on the 10,000th sign but now there are over 30,000 signs posted here.

Sign Post Forest has become world famous because of one man and it is now one of the best attractions in Watson Lake. When one wanders into the area, it is amazing at how far this tradition has come.
