Back in 1942, a lone man that was enlisted in the US Army and working on the Alaska Highway became very homesick and decided that he would post a sign in the direction of his home that stated the mileage. Many other fellows from the army followed in his footsteps and soon Sign Post Forest had many travelers stopping to put up signs.
