Waterton Lakes National Park in the Blakiston Valley in Southern Alberta is a great travel destination where you can enjoy the beauty of the natural outdoors. You can walk across the lush green meadows that surround the base of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and be hiking up the mountain side before you know it as foothills are non-existent.
Also known as "Where the Mountains Meet the Prairies" this region is stunning during the spring when wildflowers grow freely and the snow begins to disappear from the peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. When you stay at the Crandell Campground, you are in the centre of the Blakiston Valley in the Waterton Lakes National Park in Southern Alberta and you are surrounded by wilderness and wildlife.
To reach this incredible destination, take the Red Rock Parkway where you will see some magnificent scenery that highlights Southern Alberta for about fifteen kilometers. Once you reach the end of the parkway, take the trail loops through Red Rock Canyon where Alberta's landscape takes on a different perspective. This parkway is not recommended for motorhomes as the roads are fairly narrow not leaving much room for maneuvering.
The Canadian Rocky Mountains in Southern Alberta and British Columbia are bordered by Idaho and Montana, the two states of the United States. Waterton Lakes National Park is opened year round, but like anywhere in the winter the mountains and the landscape become covered in snow. The best time of the year to travel to this area is in July and August except that many other tourists also vacation at this time.
