The best way to enjoy the sights of Venice, Italy is by water. Of course, the most romantic, traditional (and expensive) way is the world-famous gondola, but the vaporetto - the water bus - will take visitors and locals through the Grand Canal of Venice, Italy for the price of a bus-ticket. A 24 hour-pass is also available for more vaporetto trips.

Water bus passengers can start their trip from Tronchette or Ferrovia (the Santa Lucia train station). It is best to take vaporetto # 1 because it is the slower water-bus, taking 45 minutes, also make sure the vaporetto is going all the way to San Marco (via Rialto).

Passengers lucky enough to get the seats in the front of the vaporetto will enjoy the best views as the water-bus winds its way along the Grand Canal, known as the Main Street of Venice, Italy. Passing the elegant palaces, and making scheduled stops, the vaporetto brings the history of Venice, Italy to the present day.

After passengers disembark at the vaporetto last stop San Marco/Vallaresso they can walk along the waterfront to Piazza San Marco and visit one of the many cafes just near the square.
