Stormy waters crash upon the Washington coast in the USA in the golden light of the sunset with the lighthouse on Destruction Island in the background. In earlier years before the lighthouse was built the amount of ship wrecks on the island's jagged rocks increased rapidly as the shipping lanes along the Washington coast increased.
The Destruction Island Lighthouse in Washington, USA was needed to warn ships to veer away from the island and construction was talked about as early as 1855 but never got underway until 1888. Three years later in 1891 after many grueling days of taking materials back and forth across rough seas, the lighthouse was completed.

... began to sound in November 1891 and a month later the lighthouse keepers lit the lamps inside the station's fresnal lens. In 1963, the lighthouse station was automated and to this day the lens remains in operation to warn water vessels of the dangers around Destruction Island along the Washington coast of the USA.
There is no public access to the lighthouse on Destruction Island but can viewed from an area near Ruby Beach.
