Puget Sound features a mosaic of sheltered island's and sandy beaches which are ideal for sailing or kayaking. The protected sound is bordered on the western side by the Olympic Peninsula and National Park, home to the rare Roosevelt Elk.

The Cascades region of Washington features the towering mountain peaks of Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, and the infamous Mount St Helens. The Cascades are a popular year round recreational area.
