Limestone formations encompass you on your tour through the Aranui Cave which is one of the Waitomo Caves in Waikato, New Zealand. There are three main caves to explore with the Aranui Cave being the smallest and most intricate.
A guided walking tour takes you inside the cave where you will find a colony of large insects that are known as Cave Wetas. These prehistoric bugs have very long legs and do not venture out of the cave until dark when they search for food.

The only day that the cave tour is not available is Christmas Day but at any time it is recommended that you are prepared with a warm jacket as the cave can become fairly chilly.
