The Waipoua Forest on the North Island is the best place that you can view Kauri trees that are native to New Zealand. The walking trails through the Waipoua Forest are easy to get to and are fairly simple walks that take you to the gigantic trees that are spectacular to see.
There are four different groups that the giant Kauri trees are divided into, one being the Tane Mahuta which is the largest living Kauri tree throughout New Zealand. Another being the Te Matua Ngahere which is the second largest and is about a twenty minute walk from the carpark. A five minute walk is where you will find the Four Sisters which is a set of trees that are extremely tall and grow side by side and the last being the Yakas Kauri which is one of the largest living Kauri trees and this is a 30 minute walk.
The Waipoua Forest in New Zealand was labeled as a sacred place in 1952 to protect the 22,762 acres of unlogged Kauri trees. There are many other types of unique plants that grow in the Waipoua Forest and their protection is also required to keep this rainforest alive.
This is a place of natural beauty that you can wander through with Kauri trees towering above you and the New Zealand wildlife calling out amongst the trees. The Waipoua Forest on the North Island of New Zealand is a fabulous place to visit while traveling the North Island of New Zealand.
