The Waipoua Forest on the North Island is the best place that you can view Kauri trees that are native to New Zealand. The walking trails through the Waipoua Forest are easy to get to and are fairly simple walks that take you to the gigantic trees that are spectacular to see.
There are four different groups that the giant Kauri trees are divided into, one being the Tane Mahuta which is the largest living Kauri tree throughout New Zealand. Another being the Te Matua Ngahere which is the second largest and is about a twenty minute walk from the carpark.
