While hiking over the volcanic soil on Mt Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park on the North Island of New Zealand, you see a landscape that is true to the volcano beliefs. Mt Ruapehu has erupted approximately fifty times since 1861 with most of them being steam explosions with the last one happening in 1975. Nature works in many ways, as when volcanic explosions occur, the landscape is usually wiped clean of any wildflowers or plant life. It takes many years for the vegetation to break through the new landscape, but once they do, Spring is beautiful around Mt. Ruapehu on the North Island of New Zealand.
