The Valle de Vio in the Huesca province of Aragon in Spain is a fine place for a walking tour. The Vio village in the valley is about 5 kilometers south of the Anisclo Canyon parking area. The adjoining, uninhabited Valle de Anisclo is larger but more rugged than the Vio valley.
Because many of the villagers of the Valle de Vio moved down to the larger towns, where there is more opportunity. The few villages remaining are sparsely populated and one of the villages is completely empty. The Valle de Vio in Huesca is fertile, and wide enough to be able to grow fields of hay. Visitors to this Vio valley just before harvest can savour the delightful sight and smell of the hayfields waving in the breezes.
Even though there are few...
... people in the area now, the interesting old churches dating back to the 11th through 13th centuries prove that Vio and the other villages were once a thriving little community in the Valle de Vio in Huesca, Aragon.
