It is estimated that the Viking age in Newfoundland was approximately 1000 years ago when Leif Ericson attempted to establish a Norse village and trading port site in what is now known as L'Anse-aux-Meadows.
Today all that remains of this era are a few building foundations and artifacts. Across the road, the Norstead Viking Site is a replica of a viking village and port of trade which features replicas of buildings, a viking ship and costumed interpreters which bring the site to life by demonstrating and explaining the history of life as a viking in L'Anse-aux-Meadows.
