At one time, the Vancouver police used to ride horses and bikes to patrol in certain areas of Vancouver, British Columbia and then cars became a lot easier to get around. Now the population in Vancouver has grown immensely and the police are finding it easier to get around in the downtown core and Chinatown on a bike.
The bike patrol unit of the Vancouver Police Department started out in 1991 with eight riders and now there is a about sixty Police Officers that ride daily. These mountain bikes that the police ride have 24 speeds, lock in style pedals, lights, mirrors and all the necessities needed for the streets.
