The Loup river source is in the Pre-Alps of Provence, France, over 4,000 feet above sea level. Over the ages, as the Loup river wends its way to the Mediterranean, a narrow valley known as Gorges du Loup has been formed.
The valley view from the lookout point at La Source Parfumee Gardens, near the cliff-top village of Gourdon in Provence, shows how steep and craggy the sides are of the Gorges du Loup. To really appreciate this beautiful valley in the Alpes Maritimes in France one should take the time for a leisurely drive.
There are many gorges and canyons in this area of Provence, but the Gorges du Loup is one of the most accessible. The little D-6 road winds along the valley floor and passes waterfalls cascading down the sheer rock face. Travel about eight kilometers and then return on the D-3 which overlooks the Gorges du Loup in Provence and will take one to the village of Gourdon where the view of the Gorges du Loup is spectacular.
