The valley town of Brunico (or Bruneck in German) in Italy is the largest and most important town in the Val Pusteria, the Alpine valley surrounded by the high, snowcapped mountains of the Alps in the South Tyrol, Italy. Brunico is 835 meters above sea level, and the nearby Kronplatz and Sambock mountains are over 2200 meters high.
Brunico in the South Tyrol, Italy was founded in 1256, consisting of just a narrow street and two rows of houses. Over the centuries Brunico grew and prospered but in 1723 a fire nearly destroyed the whole town, and the second World War bombing also did much damage.
Today, Brunico/Bruneck in the Val Pusteria, South Tyrol, Italy is a bustling economic centre - constantly growing - with the right mix...
... of old and new. As well, year-round tourism is most important to Brunico - skiing and ice sports in the winter and hiking and climbing in the summer.
