Although the lovely little town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia is considered the best example of a well-planned colonial British settlement in North America, and was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1995, many of the first settlers were German as well as Swiss and French. The probable reason for the German emigrants was because Lunenburg was named, in 1753, for George II of Britain, who was also the ruler of Brunswick-Lunenburg in Germany. Some of the town's families of today can trace their ancestors back to those early folk. There are over 800 National Historic Sites in Canada, but the harbour of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia at twilight is definitely one of the loveliest.
