There are many interesting landmarks in the city of Valencia in Valencia, Spain, and riding the Tourist Bus is the best way to see them. One of the most imposing are the Torres de Serranos, the large guard towers which were the main entrance in the wall surrounding the city of Valencia in Spain.
Built in the 14th century by Pere Balaguer, the defensive-looking towers were never used in that capacity, only as a gate for traders to pass through.
The Torres de Serranos in Valencia, was used as a prison for 300 years (1586 - 1887) with the nobility being incarcerated there. The city walls were torn down in 1865 but the Torres de Serranos were spared as were the Torres de Quart on the other side of the city of Valencia,...

Nowadays, the Torres de Serranos are open to the public, free admission, and from the parapets the views are outstanding. There is also a Maritime Museum within the towers.
