The elegant Torre del Mangia in the city of Siena, Tuscany in Italy towers over the rooftops. Constructed over 10 years from 1338 to 1348, the tower is 100 meters high, with 503 steps to climb to the top, where the view is worth the puffing and panting of the effort. Due to the narrowness of the stairwell up to the top, only 25 visitors can venture up the tower at one time to allow for plenty of room.
The white crest is made of travertine with the work being that of Lippo Memmi and the walls of the tower are about 11 feet thick on each side. An aerial view lets one see the historic buildings and the rooftops with the beautiful lush green landscape encompassing the rest of the region.
View over rooftops towards Torre del Mangia (Tower), Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall), and Piazza del Campo in the historic old town of Siena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Province of Siena, Region of Tuscany, Italy, Europe.
An aerial view of Piazza del Campo shows how the Torre del Mangia in Siena, Tuscany in Italy towers above the rooftops of the city and the surrounding landscape.
