Raging seas and high winds made it almost impossible for the Tillamook Head Lighthouse from ever being completed along the Oregon Coast in Oregon, USA. The stories behind the making of the Tillamook Head Lighthouse began in 1879 until the completion of the lighthouse in 1881.
The Tillamook Head Lighthouse sits one mile out to sea on a gigantic rock that rises out of the ocean along the Oregon Coast. During the construction of the Tillamook Head Lighthouse in Oregon, USA workers were beat and brutalized by the storms that pounded the huge rock and ripped off chunks of the cliff tossing them viciously into the ocean.
In January, 1881 the lighthouse was lit for the first time and it was not long after that keepers were assigned to man the lighthouse. The lighthouse keepers spent many nights battling wild storms but over the 77 years that the beacon shone at Tillamook Head Lighthouse there was only one night a storm was too fierce and knocked out the beacon.
On September 1, 1957 the light at the Tillamook Head Lighthouse was shut off for good and is now a historic place where people willing to pay a price can have their ashes placed after they have gone.
