The rugged west coast of the South Island of New Zealand is softened by the beautiful sunset hues which light the evening sky. This beach is also situated close to Fox Glacier, a famous New Zealand tourist destination on the West Coast. The Fox Glacier reaches 13 kilometres from the mountains to just 250 metres above sea level - just short of the this coastline.
Another highlight of Gillespies Beach are the numerous seals which congregate along the coastline during winter. A few stragglers can also be seen during the summer months.
