Swimming Coypu Picture Provence France: Scientific Name:
Myocastor coypus
A Coypu swimming in the water in Parc Naturel Regional de Camargue in Provence, France, makes a cute picture if one does not realize that this animal is actually a pesky large rodent. The coarse, dark fur of the Coypu is similar to that of a rat, only the Coypu grows to be larger sometimes reaching two feet in length, excluding its long tail, and weighing up to twenty pounds.
The marshlands make ideal homes for the Coypu as they usually make their burrows in ditches or along the raised banks of rivers or marshland areas. They prefer to have a few different ways to get in and out of their burrows, one being from the water level where they can go after swimming and another one which will open onto the land. Sometimes they have a third opening where they can head straight back into the water.
