Cape Reinga Lighthouse stands high atop the hill looking out over the water where ships can see it and use it as a guide to maneuver the waters off the North Island of New Zealand. This is an area where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet and the currents and tides can become extremely dangerous at times. The lighthouse was erected here in 1941 with a lightkeeper in control but is now automated like a majority of the lighthouses throughout the world.
