The historical Sun Life building located in Montreal, Quebec was built in three stages beginning in 1913 when the seven storey southern part of the base of the building was created. For another three years from 1923 onwards, an extension to the base was completed and in 1929 for another four years the sixteen story tower was constructed.
The Sun Life building is a total of twenty-six stories high and 122 metres tall and is the seventeenth tallest building in the city of Montreal, Quebec. Three of the floors are basement levels, then there is a ground floor and a two story mezzanine with the remainder of the floors being for offices except for the top three which are all occupied by the maintenance and electrical systems of the building.
In 1986, it was decided that many repairs were needed and the clientele was not as prestige as it once was. The Sun Life building was modernized with safety features, new windows and a major cleaning of the outside of the building.
