Over the years, many people, including famous ones, have climbed the exquisite staircase to the upper levels of the Staatsoper Theatre to see some of the world's finest operas. This theatre is one of the most important opera houses throughout Europe and as you make your way to the top level, you have a chance to admire the incredible architecture.
Amazing frescoes decorate the ceilings and walls with fascinating statues and beautifully lit chandeliers adding to the design. The railings along the staircases and the foyer balconies add an elegant touch to this remarkable theatre.
When this theatre was originally built in 1869, many people had a handful of things to say about this building. When World War II came about, Allied...
... bombs ruined the stage and the rest of the building was destroyed by fire. Many of the frescoes were saved along with the foyer, the tea room, the hall and the main stairway but reconstruction was something that was going to take some time.
It was not until 1955 that the Staatsoper Theatre reopened and there is now enough seating for abut 2,200 people. Today some of the finest operas are held at the Staatsoper and people who visit Vienna, Austria should take time out to see at least one performance at this theatre and admire the interior decor.
