Since the second half of the 4th century it is believed that a place of worship has existed on the grounds where St. Peters Church now stands in Vienna, Austria. St. Peters Church was built from 1702 to 1708 by Gabriel Montani and the famous architect Hildebrandt finished its construction in 1732.
The face of St. Peters Church in Vienna, Austria has angled towers, graceful turrets and an unusual fine entrance portal. Inside St. Peters Church you will find many watercolor paintings on the walls and ceilings, gilded carved wood, golden stucco throughout and altar pieces created by famous artists of that time period.
As centuries passed the paintings became darker and the interior took on a grey appearance so for six years starting in 1998 until 2004, St. Peters Church underwent a major renovation. The paintings now have all their original rich color back and the brightness has returned to the interior of the church.
While visiting Vienna, Austria you can tour St. Peters Church on your own time or take a horse drawn carriage ride through the streets of Vienna and let the driver explain the history behind this magnificent church.
