Of all the buildings in the massive complex at Prague Castle, the Basilica of St. George is the oldest church which was founded back around 920. Additions were added to the Basilica in 973 which included the Benedictine Convent of St. George and it was not until 1142 that a massive fire destroyed the Basilica and it had to be rebuilt.
The difference being in the rebuild is that the facade of the Basilica of St George now only dates back from 1671 - 1691. There are fabulous frescoes in the interior of the dome which were done by Vaclav Vavrinec Reiner. Inside the chapel of St. Ludmila there are tombs belonging to the famous saint, the wife of Prince Borivoj, Prince Vratislav and Boleslav II.
