The Spider Monkey is a vulnerable species in the wild as they have no protected habitat and since the 1950's the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand has successfully been able to breed them. A lot of the Spider Monkeys from the Auckland Zoo have been sent to other zoos to establish breeding colonies so that the Spider Monkey never becomes extinct.
The Spider Monkey is a very social animal and tends to form groups of thirty or more individuals. They eat mainly ripe fruit, sometimes leaves or flowers and seem to feed heavily in the early morning and rest for the remainder of the day. It is best to visit the Auckland Zoo in the early hours of the day as that is probably your best bet to see the Spider Monkey up close to get his picture.
As you pass by the habitat of the Spider Monkey at the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand, you would almost think that they pose for their picture. You will find eighteen of the adorable little Spider Monkey species happily swinging around the rainforest at the Auckland Zoo.
