Soave Castle in Soave, Italy was first built atop Mount Tenda to ward off the Magyar invasions in 934. In 1379 the walls seen today were constructed by the Scaligeri. The most outer wall housing the gate and drawbridge was built by the Venetians in the 15th century.
Soave, in the Veneto region of the Province of Verona in Italy, is a well-known name to wine aficionados. The Garganega grapes are grown in the vineyards in the fields and hills around Soave in Italy. The wines produced from these vineyards are among the most famous wines exported from Italy.
There are different opinions as to where the name Soave comes from, one theory is that it is derived from the Suebi or Soavi in ancient Italian. Others believe it is named...
... after the Svevi of Suavi who were Nordic people who, in the 7th century, attempted to invade Northern Italy. Whatever the origin of Soave in the Veneto region of Verona in Italy, visitors will find a beautiful fairy-tale town surrounded by vineyards and guarded by the medieval Soave castle.
