Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory in Canada is famous for its Sign Post Forest and is a highly visited place by tourists. The incredible work of art began in 1942 when a fellow from the US Army became homesick and posted a sign in the direction of his hometown with the mileage on it.
It was not long after that when other people followed his lead and posted a directional sign to make Sign Post Forest the place it is today. In 1990, the 10,000th sign was put up and people are still carrying on with this legend. Eventually the town of Watson Lake decided that they would create an Adopt a Post Program so that they can continue increasing the tradition at Sign Post Forest where you will now find over 30,000 signs.
Sign Post Forest...
... is owned by the town of Watson Lake and they encourage people to keep this historic place alive. I would not recommend you follow any of these signs as they are sure to lead you in the wrong direction.
