During the sunset hours near the town of Casares in the Province of Malaga in Andalusia, Spain, the Sierra Bermeja, a well known mountain range in this region, is highlighted by the remaining rays of the sun. Thick white clouds hang above, casting a shadow across sections of the mountain range and landscape.
The Sierra Bermeja stands around 1,000 meters in most places with a point that peaks at 1,450 meters. Over the years, the mountain range has taken its beatings from the volcanic movements that have shaken the area near Casares in Andalusia, Spain.
A reddish coloring that adorns the Sierra Bermeja has come from the rocks that have an abundance of olivine mineral in them. Rainwater has oxidized the iron and magnesium found throughout the rocks and the iron oxide has produced this unique shade of red.
An afternoon outing will take you to the top of the Sierra Bermeja, leaving plenty of time to explore once you reach the summit. For those wishing to stay longer, there is a hut near the top where you can crash for the night, and enjoy a picnic or barbecue the next day after strolling through the pine forest.
Here you can find some unique plant life and various species of trees, some which are only native to Andalusia like the Pinsapo. The possibilities of crossing paths with a mountain goat, roe deer or an Egyptian mongoose is very likely as these are the most common animals seen atop the Sierra Bermeja. Other wildlife that is seen on this mountain range are booted eagles, Griffon vultures, sparrow hawks, long-eared owls and many different types of reptiles.
The scenery from this mountain range is breathtaking as you can see for miles across the landscape of Andalusia, Spain. An adventure that is worthwhile either for an afternoon, the day or a couple of days while visiting Andalusia, Spain.
