Information about the "Sault Ste Marie International Bridge Ontario" photograph:

Standing at the Soo Locks in the city of Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario, Canada you get a spectacular view of the International Bridge that spans the St. Mary's River. As the sun starts to go down for the day, the light glistens off of the bridge showing its true colors with the background trees displaying their Autumn colors.

This bridge starts on one side of Ontario, Canada in Sault Ste. Marie and joins its twin city, Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan, USA. The construction of the International Bridge began in 1960 and approximately two years later in October of 1962, it was officially opened for traffic.

The steel truss arched bridge holds the weight of many cars that cross the International Bridge on a daily basis and the double arch of the bridge crosses the Soo Locks with the bridge deck eventually ending in the downtown core of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Below the International Bridge, there are train bridges that makes shipment between the United States and Canada easy and quicker than sending things on boats.

With both the American and Canadian sides of the International Bridge, the total length is about 2.8 miles. Before this bridge was built, the only way to cross the St. Mary's River was by ferry or rail and now for a small toll fee, the International bridge has made life much simpler for people in Ontario and Michigan.
