St. Pauls is one of the seven small communities in the South Tyrol of Italy that is the commune of Rodengo, or Rodeneck in German. Located at the beginning of the Pustertal Valley, it is predominately German speaking due to the fact that prior to 1919 the South Tyrol belonged to Austria. There have also been relics found which proves a settlement was in the area around 1500BC.
The other communities, actually little villages, are not very big - Vill has 500 inhabitants, Nauders 250, Gifen 100, Spisses 80, Frollerberg 70 and Ahnerberg 40 and St Pauls has 100. Throughout the summer months the area has 'Weinritt' a wine tour visiting the many wineries.
In May St. Pauls in Italy holds wine culture weeks. Wine tasting, seminars,...
... musical evenings are all on the agenda as well as other interesting wine related events. The spire of the parish church of St. Pauls towers over the pretty little town. The windows framed in stone, archways and stone stairways are an excellent example of the 'Uberetscher' style of the architecture, in the South Tyrol region of Italy.
