The beautiful Rose window is an outstanding feature of the Duomo of the city of Volterra in Tuscany, Italy. This style of Romanesque rose window is called 'Oculi' and is full of rich and intricate stained glass designs. The ocular window was popular in the 11th and 12th centuries, and many of the great artists such as Donatello, Ghiberti and Uccello created them.
The Volterra Duomo itself was reconstructed in the 12th century on the site of an existing church after a powerful earthquake.
