The 13th century Duomo (Cathedral) of Volterra in Tuscany, Italy has a Romanesque facade which compared to some other Cathedrals seems rather severe, but on closer inspection, the inlaid geometric marble work around the eaves is quite intricate. This is the work of Nicola Pisano, whose work is seen throughout Northern Italy. The unusual portal leads to the interior of the Duomo where the beautiful rose windows can be fully be appreciated.
