The many and varied rock formations found around the world are a result of the natural forces at work. Erosion by wind, water, and ice has shaped the rock over many years slowly but surely creating formations.
Rock formations can be created from sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, and igneous rocks. The formations have been given terms by geologists such as escarpment, butte, mesa, stack, gorge, peak, cliff, and inselberg.
