This beach highway (which is drivable) is framed by cliffs of lignite and soft sand dunes.

... any Oystercatchers on this particular day, it is believed that the sea gulls which are generally opportunist feeders allow the Oystercatchers to do the catching and then clean up any scraps. The birds both feed on Toheroa - a shellfish which is usually found in abundance at Ripiro Beach.
