The beautiful Queen Sofia Opera House was officially opened in October 2005 and for the architect Santiago Calatrava it was the final triumph after fourteen years of dedication to the building of the City of the Arts and Sciences in the city of Valencia, Spain.
El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, to give the Spanish title, is of such an unique design and looks as though a space craft and an ocean liner have merged into a truly outstanding piece of modern architecture.
The other three buildings of la Ciutat de les Arts i les Cienies complex in Valencia, Spain are L'Hemisferic, Museo de las Ciencies Principe Felipe (both designed by Calatrava) and L'Oceanografic (designed by the late Felix Candela).
The Queen Sofia Opera...
... House consists of three halls and can seat up to 4,000 patrons if three productions are held at the same time. The total floor space is approximately 40,000 square meters and stands over 70 meters in height. The City of the Arts and Sciences has put Valencia, the third largest city in Spain, into the same class as Madrid and Barcelona and should be at the top of the list when visiting Valencia.
