Prosels Castle in South Tyrol, Italy is now a replica of the original castle that was built around 1500 but the Romanesque archway and the keep date back to the 13th century. The Prosels Castle was originally owned by Leonhard of Vols who was born in 1458 and earned a great deal of money so he could afford to put a lot of cash into making the Prosels Castle very prestigious.
During this time Leonhard was part of the first witchcraft trials of Tyrol, Italy. The Prosels Castle has a great deal of history and legends behind it including many a tale of the witches and their witchcraft.
The last member of the Vols family died in 1810 so the Prosels Castle remained empty for 50 years and was almost completely in ruins. From 1860 to 1978 the castle had fourteen different owners one of which was Alexander Franz von Gynther who bought it in 1887 and turned the castle into a replica of what he thought it had once looked like.
The Prosels Castle was bought for the last time and then the owner died and family tried to resell it. In 1981 the "Kuratorium Schloss Prosels" society was founded and took control of the castle and the replica of the Prosels Castle now stands today in South Tyrol, Italy. It is now open to the public where you can see concerts, theatre performances, art exhibits and even weddings that take place in the chapel of this historic castle.
Replica of the Castel Prosels (Schlos Prosels) in Voels, Italy, South Tirol, Europe, Europe 2006.
