Prairie Wolves Animal Photo: Scientific Name:
Canis latrans
Most people recognize these types of animal as coyotes but they are also called Prairie Wolves and they enjoy taking it easy with a few close friends at Parc Omega in Montebello, Quebec. They do not travel or stay together in packs like wolves do but they tend to stay close with a few of their own sex groups. They easily disperse and travel solo for some time before regrouping again.
The coyotes or prairie wolves have a reddish brown coat mixed with gray coloring with shades of lighter fur under their throats and bellies. A coyote has a mix of characteristics in his look as he resembles that of a average household dog but also has the freedom and wild look like that of a wolf. They have long legs and when fully grown they can stand...
... between thirty and forty inches in height and weigh somewhere between fifteen and forty-six pounds.
Each prairie wolf stays alert as humans near as their sense and smell are exceptional. In the wild, the prairie wolf seems to have widen their range of habitats as humans continually move in to their area, so they continue farther out into the wilderness. These coyotes have plenty of free space to roam and have adapted very nicely to life in Parc Omega in Montebello, Quebec.
This particular day at Omega Park, these Prairie Wolves give tourists the perfect photo opportunity as they nestle in against the greenery surrounded by Autumn colored trees. One animal was not too sure about his photo being taken as it stands tall on a rocky surface decided what his next move will be.
