A very well known attraction which lures in thousands of tourists on vacation to Prague in the Czech Republic, is Prague Castle and the historic area known as Golden Lane. Along the lane, some tourists casually do some window shopping at a few of the stores and only enter ones which catch their eye, while others explore each one to see the wide selection of goods available in these charming cottage shops.
Along this historic lane, tourists will find houses which date back to the 16th century with one of them being home to a museum where you will find displays of medieval armor worn by knights. Before Golden Lane was opened to the public, the cottages were very small dwellings where the castle marksmen lived with their families. Soon the marksmen were not required as much and were becoming a thing of the past and the houses were lived in by an assortment of people, both wealthy and poor, with some being very well known throughout Prague. Over the years, the buildings were crumbling and they were not repairable, so larger ones were erected in their place, some being restored and painted as late as the mid 1950's.
Golden Lane is not part in the quoted price to tour around Prague Castle, a special fee is charged to enter into Golden Lane and see this historic area, but the fee is well worth it. Summer months bring out thousands of tourists who vacation in the Czech Republic and Golden Lane becomes a very busy place as languages from all over the world can be heard up and down the cobbled lane. It is open year round with shorter hours from November to March and is a place everyone should see while on vacation in the Czech Republic.
