Driving Highway 510 along the south coast of Labrador, Canada you will reach Amour Point in the small community of L'Anse Amour. On this point, stands the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada and the second in the country and is known as Point Amour Lighthouse.
In the early 1850's, it was decided that a lighthouse was needed in this area due to the waterways becoming busier and the strong currents carrying large ice flows. From 1854-1857, Point Amour Lighthouse was built with all the latest technology of that era but was not lit until 1858.

The buildings used to be home to a oil shed, telegraph station, fog alarm and living quarters. The tall white lighthouse towering over these buildings is where you can see for miles across the wide open sea after climbing 128 steps to the top.
